How to use an ignition interlock device

An ignition interlock device is a breathalyzer installed in a driver's vehicle that measures the level of alcohol in your breath. Connected directly to your vehicle's ignition system, you are required to blow into the attached mouthpiece to test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC). In the case your alcohol concentration exceeds a specified legal level, the interlock device temporarily prevents your vehicle from starting.

Turn your ignition key, or press start, and the device will power up.
Take a deep breath in, then blow into the device. You'll hear a solid tone while you blow. When the tone stops, immediately take a deep breath in again through the device until you hear another tone.
When the display shows Test Passed start your engine and go!

What to do in a case of a lockout

If your device display reads Service Lockout, and where state approved, our remote unlocking system feature is available to help you avoid pricey towing fees.

We have one of the lowest lock out rates on the market. This is because we use the newest and most advanced technology on the market. While some devices can lock you out more frequently or malfunction, with Draeger, we pride ourselves on making sure this doesnt occur, so your quality of life is not compromised.

What to do in case of a violation

Violations are determined by your monitoring agent or state program requirements. Some frequent examples could be providing a breath test that is above the alcohol set point for your area, missing a retest, or an attempt is made to circumvent a test or tamper with the device.
